Here’s a truth about sheet masks: No matter how many times we buy them, we cannot seem to get enough of them. At 1-3 dollars apiece, they seem harmless on our budget. But sustaining a sheet mask routine on a long-term basis is definitely not a cheap habit to have.
In today’s blog post, I am going to share some tips and tricks for getting the most out of our favorite sheet masks (which also translates to getting the bang out of each buck we spend on them).
Let’s get started!
Start with a Clean Slate
There is no point in slapping your face with a fresh sheet mask if your skin is buried ten feet deep in pollution and your pores are clogged with oil, dirt and sebum. Yikes! Your skin won’t be able to absorb all the good stuff from the sheet mask if it has an army of dead skin cells on top of it to shield the ingredients from seeping in, so make it a point to cleanse and exfoliate your skin prior to masking.
Don’t Forget to Chill
To maximize the soothing benefits of a sheet mask, it is highly recommended to refrigerate the mask half an hour before using. The cold sensation helps in calming irritation and soothing tired skin. The chilly feeling also adds a layer of excitement to your sheet mask session.
Don’t Waste the Extra
Most sheet masks usually have leftover essence in the pack. Make the most of the remaining essence by slathering them on other areas of your body such as your neck, your elbows, your legs and your knees.
No Overtime Masking
It is a common misconception that the longer we leave the sheet mask on, the better results we can get from it. However, this is not exactly the case. Once you leave the sheet mask on for longer than the intended time, it begins to work in retrograde by absorbing the moisture out of your skin. It is highly recommended to leave your sheet mask on your face for a maximum of 15-20 minutes.
Use Both Sides
Unlike your favorite graphic tee, there is no right side or wrong side to a sheet mask. Make the most of the entire mask by flipping it over halfway through your masking session. You’ll not only have twice the dose of relaxation but you’ll also be able to fully maximize the moisture benefit of your sheet mask.
