Beauty Bytes: My Updated Night Time Skincare Routine

Hello guys! It feels like a lifetime ago since the last time I wrote a beauty-related blog post in here. The past few months have been a total b-i-a-t-c-h, for a lack of a better adjective. You see, early this year, my phone and my computer gave up on me all at once. I lost a lot of digital archives, photographs, templates — stuff I had worked so hard on for past year.

Around the same time, things started spiraling into my life like a mindless tornado. I had to bid goodbye to my comfort zone. I had to move out and live alone and be the adult that I was supposed to be a long, long time ago. I had to face the truth of things, suck up my feelings and nurse myself back to sanity, if only to survive this shit.

It was such a tough time. Back then, the last thing I cared about was my skincare. When your life is falling apart, would you even have the fucking time to slather toners, essences, and serums on your skin, only for them to be washed away by a river of tears as soon as you plunge to bed? Yes, you wouldn’t have.

I was in and out of my routine, and there came a point when I finally ditched my skincare altogether because there seemed to be no point to anything anymore.

But hey, here I am now. Your girl has survived. At least I like to think I did. And slowly and steadily, I am coming back to the art of self-care, one careful step at a time.

Today I am going to share my current skincare routine. It isn’t complete yet, as I am still in the process of building this routine. But I hope this may be helpful to some of you.

Step 1: Exfoliator

I ran out of my favorite Skinfood wash off mask and decided to try something new. I am currently using the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay paired with the Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to exfoliate my skin. I’ve only tried this duo twice and so far the results were pretty impressive. But despite the massive hype on the healing clay, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it is the “most powerful clay mask” out there.

Step 2: Cleanser

I am using the Calmia Oatmeal Therapy Cleansing Foam. It is a pretty average cleanser. It removes some of the dirt and oil in my face without stripping moisture off of my skin. But it has a hard time removing the sticky film of sunscreen on my skin, so minus points for that.

Step 3: Eye Cream

Okay, this eye cream isn’t that bad but it isn’t that good either. I wrote a full review here. I am currently on a hunt for a good eye cream so I can finally bid goodbye to these racoon eyes. Any recos?

Step 4: Toner

I came across this local brand lately and fell instantly in love with them. V&M Naturals offers an array of all-natural products that can be used by both sexes. Hence, the name V&M which stands for Venus and Mars.

I am currently using their Rosewater + Aloe Toner and I love love love just how gentle it is on my skin, unlike other alcohol-loaded toners that I’ve used in the past. The consistency is almost like water, but its cleansing and moisturizing properties are on point. The scent is barely there which is perfect for people like me who don’t like fragrances in their skincare. Overall, this is easily one of my favorites.

Sometimes I also use The Face Shop Rice Ceramide Moisture Toner for when I need an extra boost in the moisture department. I like how moisturizing this toner is. No drying, no tugging at all.

Step 5: Serums | Essence | Ampoules

I am gaga over Niacinamide lately because studies suggest that it helps in brightening the skin and improving the skin texture. For this part, I am using the Natural Pacific (Nacific) Phyto Niacin Whitening Essence. I can’t anything bad about this product. It works really well. It has a watery consistency and a faint smell. Best of all, it is easily absorbed by the skin.

Occasionally, I add in the IOPE Moistgen Serum Skin Hydration when my skin feels drier and flakier than usual.

Step 6: Oils

I came across this cult-favorite from V&M Naturals, and just like the Rosewater + Aloe toner, I fell instantly in love with the CPC+G Oil. It has a typical oily consistency but it does not feel heavy on the skin at all. In less than a week, I already see noticeable improvements in my skin. I also like that it is a versatile product. I also use it on my elbows and knees to help lighten these areas.

Step 7: Moisturizer

To seal all of that good stuff, I use the Mamonde Rose Water Soothing Gel. I like how soothing it is and how lightweight it feels on the skin. The faint rose scent is quite a turn-off for me but that’s not a big deal. What I like best is that it doesn’t contain Denatured alcohol in its ingredients, as compared to the highly popular soothing gels out there. Denatured alcohol is bad for your skin, people.

Step 8: Sleeping Mask

When I’m feeling a little extra, I use the Beuins Whitening Sleeping Mask. I am on the fence about this product because 1) it has a strange scent that puts me off and 2) it feels so freaking thick and heavy on the skin. I also barely notice any difference in my skin at all.

So there you have it. This is my current night time skincare routine. I know my routine isn’t exactly the best, but I am doing my best to improve and build this routine.

To say that skincare has been a major part of my life would be an understatement. I have been into all of this skincare stuff for as long as I can remember, and despite the challenges that we face from time to time, I don’t think anything in the world can ever really keep me from doing what I really want.

It takes a certain kind of courage to take care of one’s self. At least that is true for some of us who would rather choose to die or get killed, as soon as the chance for dying and getting killed is allowed.

But not today.

Today I choose to live. Today I choose to be human. And if by being human, you mean slathering layer after layer of skincare products on your face and spending the rest of the night hiking to the holy mountain of your 7-10 skincare routine and waking up to that blinding sunrise of your glowing skin, then girl, so be it.
